Rowland P. Woodward III, “Woody”

Rowland, 76, passed Sunday October 16th, 2022 peacefully in his home with his daughter by his side. He was born August 30th, 1946 to Rowland P. Woodward Jr and Margaret Starkey. He graduated from Morrisville high school, 1965. Woody was considered the “best bowler on the East coast” and his passion for bowling continued with him throughout his life. The team became great friends and would not only bowl, but also play cards together every week. December 8th 1965, he was drafted into the U.S Army, where he spent two years serving his country in Alaska. He was a specialist E4 and was honorably discharged. During this time, Woody discovered his talent for skiing.

For twenty-nine years, Woody was a welder for General Motors. This is where he met his life-long best friend, Tyrone Romano. He had a love for muscle cars and his dream was to own a red corvette. Every year, he enjoyed vacationing with his family at Seaside Heights. Woody was an adrenaline seeking man, who enjoyed crazy rides, jumping out of planes, and always longed to swim in the middle of the ocean, at midnight, with sharks. Parx became one his favorite places as he grew older.

Woody was always the life of the party and had a unique sense of humor, with a trick up his sleeve. He was an amazing father to his three children, Sharon Estel, Dawn (Mike) Barbour, and Woody Woodward (IV). He is survived by his sisters Sandy (Butch) Podoris and Cindy (Barbara) Woodward, his grandchildren Ryan, Alyssa, Taylor Jayne, Jerry, Tristan, Hope, Ashton, CJ, Patty, Woody (V), and Ella, his great grandchildren Madison, Ryan, Anthony, Arianna, and Winter, his ex-wife Barbara (Hank) Merritt, his many in-laws, his many nieces, nephews, their children, and everyone else who has been there day in and day out for him

He will be dearly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Alzheimer’s/Parkinson’s Foundation for a cure. As per Woody’s wishes only a private family gathering will be held.
