Joseph Sworen passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, at the age of 76. Born to Michael Sworen and Irene (Gorsky) Sworen in Bridgeport CT, he grew up in Newark and Edison NJ. He attended Oakland University and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1970 to 1974. While at Oakland University he met his former spouse, Lois Webster and they married in 1976, settling in Edison NJ. He moved to Piscataway NJ in 1985 and relocated to Warminster Pennsylvania in 2017 with his son Jeffrey and family. After his service, he spent much of his career working in the blood services industry, making a significant impact at NY/NJ Blood Services, SeraTec Biologicals, and the Community Blood Council of NJ.
Outside of family, Joseph had a deep passion for hobbies such as baseball card collecting, horse racing, and fantasy sports. He was an avid jigsaw/crossword puzzler and was the ideal teammate for sports/music trivia. He could often be heard reciting some of his choice statements while watching sports on TV. He had a wide array of knowledge, to which he stated, “with what I know and a quarter you could make a phone call”. He loved classic rock and was known to throw some headphones on with an adult beverage in hand, a routine he referred to as “rocking and rolling”. When surrounded by family he was also known to jokingly say “there are too many people in this room”.
Joseph was a family man who had few limits for what he would do to help his loved ones in times of need. He is reunited with his parents Michael and Irene, along with his fur buddy Bentley. He is survived by his brother John and wife Diane of Pine Brook NJ; his son Jeffrey, wife Wendy and grandchildren Nathaniel, Mackenzie, and Olivia of Warminster Pennsylvania; and his daughter Jamie of Piscataway NJ.
Military interment services will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to The American Heart Association.
