Jeff Bassett, born in Upper Darby, PA, on September 30, 1947, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on October 20, 2024, in Doylestown, PA.
After graduating high school, Jeff enlisted in the Army. He spent two years serving his country, spending time in Germany fixing aircraft, which he often reminisced about. He later attended night school at Villanova University to earn his Bachelor’s degree. Jeff worked for over 20 years at Bassett Steel & Tube Co., where he met his wife, Carol. Together, they raised three children, ran a business, and celebrated an endless love that lasted throughout their later years.
Known for his love of cooking, Jeff could often be found in the kitchen, experimenting with new recipes or perfecting old favorites like his Perfect Pepper Pork and Cajun Chicken Salad. He was also an avid fan of old movies and Law & Order reruns, which he enjoyed in his downtime. Jeff spent over 20 years volunteering at both Paoli and Doylestown Hospitals. He loved being able to connect with patients and put them at ease with a funny joke or silly pun. Having spent his life in and around the Philadelphia area, Jeff was a passionate Philly sports fan. He loved the Flyers and would try never to miss a game. If you saw him on a Sunday during football season, he was most certainly wearing an Eagles shirt. Above all, Jeff cherished the time spent playing with his grandchildren, who brought immense joy and laughter into his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carol, and their children: Michael and his wife, Mindy; Katie and her husband, Craig; and Matthew, along with five grandchildren: Henry, Lena, Sarah, Iris, and Kensie; cousin Max, who was just like a grandson to him; his four sisters: Ann, Cheryl, Lyn, and Laurie; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jeff’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who were fortunate to experience his warmth, generosity, and zest for life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to a charity of your choosing.
