Douglas LaRue, 85 of Southampton, PA passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024. He was born to Bernice (Prince) and Samuel LaRue. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Francano and his brothers, Steven and Gary. Doug is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Moffat, (Michael), and his son, Lance. He leaves behind five grandchildren: Connor and Brendon Moffat and Andrew, Ryan, and Mary Kate LaRue.
Doug was an Army Veteran who served from 1958 through 1961 in the US Army Special Forces, later to be renamed the Green Berets. He served in Korea for one year before returning to the United States for Discharge.
Doug had a long working career starting at the Exide Battery Company on Rising Sun Avenue in Philadelphia in September of 1963. After the plant closed in 1977, he moved on to other driver positions. The longest of these was as a courier/ truck driver for the Prudential Insurance Company in Dresher, PA. He retired from there in 1994. He continued to work part-time and worked into his early eighties with his last position as a van driver for a day care in Warminster.
He is remembered for his hobbies of hunting and fishing with friends and his family. He later dedicated himself to the sport of road running. At 40, he started running marathons and did this for years. He ran marathons in Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, DC, New York City and Toronto, Canada.
Final services and Interment will be private with immediate family.
