Betty Jane Strecker of Doylestown, PA passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024. She was 91. Born on February 21, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio to the late George Martin and Mary E. (Millikin) Martin. Betty had worked as a Commercial Artist for Columbus & Southern Ohio Electric Co., Bridal Consultant at John Wanamaker's in Center City, Philadelphia and as a Travel Agent. In Doylestown she worked 18 years at Rutherfords Photo Shop and then Doylestown Hospital for 15 years at the School of Radiology and as Library Assistant in the Medical Library. Betty served her community with pride and zest. Elected in 1983 to Doylestown Borough Council serving 16 years, last 2 years as the First Female President. She designed material and monitored the boroughs’ recycling program, served as Coordinator for the Sesquicentennial in 1988, edited the boroughs’ newsletter and provided the idea for the Revitalization Board. Served number of years as Municipal Representative to the Bucks County Community Development Advisory Board a Federal Program. Betty was the Founder of Bucks County Civil War Round Table in 1993, after 2 years fundraising to refurbish the 104th Monument in the center of Doylestown. She was appointed Executive Director to the BCCWRTs’ new Museum and Library in 2005. Betty served as President on the following: Friends of the Library, Bucks County Boroughs Association, Doylestown Business & Professional Women and the defunct Doylestown Community Association which merge with Doylestown Business Community Association (DBCA) as secretary. For 13 years edited the Doylestown Community News. She was Treasurer of the Citizens of Bucks County WWII Committee, whose completed task was the World War II Memorial. Continuing her lifelong interest in history, she joined the Board of the Doylestown Historical Society. Betty was grateful for the continuing education in public service in her early years to Junior Achievement, CBCC Woman committee, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, the Junior Woman's Club, the VIA, the Pearl Buck Home Volunteers and the Thrift Shop for Welcome House. Betty was the beloved wife and friend to the late Charles G Strecker. Jr. (2004) and the loving mother of the late Scott W Strecker (Cynthia) (2022). Loving mother to Joyce A Chappell (Norman) and Charles M Strecker. Grandmother to Christopher Mullen (Christina), Michael Chappell (Neang), Maximilian Strecker (Kaitlyn), Matt Trauger. Great Grandma to Andrew Mullen, Chloe Mullen, Mason Chappell, Brianna Chappell.
